Community Service
Dental Education Program
Children’s Dentistry of Austell, Cumming, Dawsonville, Roswell, Sandy Springs, and Woodstock is passionate about our dental health campaign in the Metro Atlanta community and providing dental health education to children and their parents. Throughout the year, our staff members play an active role in this effort by volunteering at various schools, daycares, churches, summer camps, etc. to educate children on proper oral health.
We have worked with schools all over North Georgia; during National Children’s Dental Health Month alone, we see more than 10,000 of students and share with them the importance of having good oral hygiene. Our complimentary dental health presentations are informative and fun for children of all ages.
Younger children are shown a fun video, learn about proper nutrition and oral care for maintaining a healthy and bright smile, engage in fun activities, and receive an entertaining demonstration on brushing and flossing with our gorilla puppet mascot, King Cavity! Older students enjoy an engaging PowerPoint presentation and learn about caring for and protecting their permanent teeth. We complete their learning experience with a short puppet show!
Children’s Dentistry’s dental health campaign also includes informational sessions about dental care for Mom’s Clubsand Parent Teacher Organizations in private and public schools in North Georgia. We have developed an inclusive PowerPoint presentation that answers questions about children’s dental health. These sessions provide helpful tips, as well as, illustrations and engaging discussions.
Dental Screenings
According to the office of the U.S. Surgeon General, more than 51 million school hours are lost each year to dental-related illness. Children’s Dentistry tries its best to decrease this number in multiple ways, and one example is offering dental screenings to all schools at no cost. A Registered Dental Hygienist from Children’s Dentistry quickly examines each student’s mouth to see if there are any visible dental or oral problems. Early diagnosis can eliminate pain, infection and progressive oral diseases.
Community Events
Through our community outreach program, Children’s Dentistry also actively participates as vendors in many local community festivals, events, and health fairs. Kids love to practice proper brushing techniques on our gorilla puppet mascot, King Cavity! We provide goody bags filled with toothbrushes, balloons, tattoos, rinse cups and more! Glow-in-the-dark basketballs and a children’s coloring area is also provided by our pediatric dental practice during community events. Of course, we give parents helpful tips about their children’s oral care, specific to age and particular needs.
